Acai is one of those super foods that was super popular for a while and has kind of faded off with time. That doesn't mean it's any less beneficial though! This little berry is packed with antioxidants, is heart healthy, stops bad cell proliferation, promotes skin health, helps digestion and more! I think we can get into trouble with these health food trends thinking they're going to be an easy fix to our health and wellness. Don't think you're going to eat one acai smoothie and suddenly be the picture of health. There are no easy fixes but adding these beneficial things to our diets combined with cutting out the bad stuff and being active is the key to a healthy lifestyle and being our best selves!
Acai isn't the only powerhouse ingredient in this smoothie! Blueberries, greens, collagen and even the juice I use have tremendous health benefits. I use The Power of 7 juice from Trader Joe's. It has seven nutrient-dense juices...pomegranate, tart cherry, black mulberry, red grape, purple carrot, cranberry, and blueberry! If you don't have access to TJ's you can use pomegranate or grape juice.
If I'm eating a smoothie for breakfast I usually make it into a smoothie bowl rather than drinking it with a straw. Having toppings makes it more filling and feel like a meal. I always make sure to add something with a little crunch. The act of chewing activates your digestion and makes your body feel more satisfied. In this photo I have some banana, frozen organic blueberries, dried bing cherries (YUM), super seeds, granola, and edible flowers. If I'm making a smoothie for a snack or post workout I usually just pour it in a glass and drink it from a straw. How you do it is up to you! Either way you're getting a great boost of nurtrition for your bod!

Ingredients
1 frozen banana
1 frozen acai packet*
Large handful of organic frozen blueberries
Large handful of dark greens (baby kale or spinach)
Coconut/aloe water ice cube (Optional- don't sub with regular water. Skip if you don't have coconut water.)
Scoop of collagen (optional)
Juice
* If you can't find frozen acai just use twice as many frozen blueberries
Directions
Add everything to the blender starting with about 1/4 cup of juice.
Blend and add more juice until you have the consistency you like.
Tip- If I'm making a smoothie bowl I add only enough liquid to allow everything to blend, leaving it very thick. If I'm making a smoothie to drink out of a straw I add a little more liquid so it's not as thick and easier to drink.
