Foods to never eat!

I preach about balance and allowing yourself to eat less healthy foods you enjoy in moderation, but there are somethings you should never eat. I used to eat all these things and some of them were harder than others to stop eating. The surprising thing that happens over time is the desire goes away. Even more surprising, the same things you used to crave will not taste good after a while. Locally grown is always best, buy as much organic and as much unprocessed as possible, and avoid these foods! You will be amazed at how good you feel.
My husband used to eat even worse than I did and since we've been together (5 years) he's eating better and seen the change in his body and how he feels. He still eats pizza and sometimes drinks a soda, but when he eats really badly he regrets it and always says he can't beleive how his body seems to reject the bad food. I think when we're used to eating badly our bodies get used to it so we don't realize how bad we really feel because we don't know any different feeling. When you stop eating these things you feel better than you even knew you could feel! Hubs will sometimes get a craving and go to Wendys or somewhere like that and after he eats he always wonders why he did it to himself. It just shows that the body is great at adjusting to its environment but it likes consistancy and being fed well!

Soda- Diet or regular! I would even argue diet soda is worse for you. I very rarely drink soda and when I do it's caffeine free and made with natural ingredients (sometimes a seven and seven if I'm out). If you need a soda fix try Trader Joes delicious ginger beer soda or Hassens root beer.
Fast food- If you're still eating McDonalds, I'm sorry, you need to get your head checked. I don't make a habit of putting people down for their eating habits but McDonalds is garbage. I'm picking on McDonalds because I think it's the worst but Dairy Queen, Hardie's, Taco bell, etc. are all killing you from the inside out. If you're in a rush and have no other options, try something like Panera instead. Even "healthier" fast food should be avoided and saved for "emergency" situations.
Non organic eggs and meat- This is hard to completely avoid. I know I eat nonorganic when I'm out to eat, but when buying eggs and meat for your house it's important to buy organic and local if possible. Non organic meat and eggs are packed with hormones and antibiotics that wreak havoc on your body. Buying local is important because there are so few processing plants in the US compared to how much food is processed. There is no way to have proper quality control with that much volume. Tysons daily slaughter capacity is 28,700! So even if something says organic, how do you really know? If you buy local you are more likely to get what you're paying for and you're supporting your local farmers!
Non organic milk- Exactly like meat/eggs, non organic milk has hormones and antibiotics that are horrible for you. I would even go as far as to say to stay away from as much dairy as you can. Homemade nut milk is the way to go! I feel so much better when I don't drink cows milk, but good quality cheese is something I allow myself because well...cheese is good.
Microwave popcorn- Microwave popcorn is full of chemicals and overloaded with salt. It's very easy to make stovetop popcorn.
Iodized salt- Use sea salt/pink Himalayan salt instead.
Artificial sweeteners- These not only cause cancer but can disturb your gut flora and cause diabetes.
American cheese- It's not even cheese. It's fat and chemicals. Buy real cheese.
Lunch meat- This is a soft rule. I buy "good" lunch meat, but it's still not great to eat even the good stuff. Processed meats are packed with sodium, nitrates, and artificial flavors.
Sugary cereal- Don't start your day on a bad foot. Fruity pebbles is going to give you zero nutrients. It will fill you up for about 30 minutes leaving you open for not only a sugar crash but also getting hungry and eating junk to hold you over until lunch. Try eating granola or ancient grains oatmeal instead!
Candy/processed sweets- These are packed with artificial sweeteners/flavorings, sugars, and countless other bad for you ingredients. I run into being tempted to eat candy at work because it's available. The way to balance this is to eat in moderation occasionally, but don't buying these things for your home. For example, instead of buying a bag of Snickers to have at the house, buy dark chocolate covered almonds. Instead of buying Oreos, bake your own sweets or buy organic cookies with natural ingredients. Just because you're eating healthier doesn't mean you should deprive yourself of goodies. The key is to pick healthier goodies!
